The history of the factory in Koryčany began in 1856 when a German entrepreneur Michael Thonet had a plant built for production of bent furniture which was the first of its kind in Europe.
It was already in 1857 when the factory produced furniture made from bent beech wood, namely chairs and various sitting furniture and rocking chairs.
In 1926, “THONET – MUNDUS Joint Stock Company” was established with headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
Later on, the company moved to Prague. The company’s name was changed to read “THONET – MUNDUS Czechoslovak Bent Wood Furniture Factory, Joint Stock Company“.
In 1946, “THONET National Enterprise” was established with a corporate head office in Prague. The Koryčany plant was incorporated into the new entity of “United UP Enterprises, Central Directorate in Brno.”
In 1953, the Koryčany combine became an independent entity with its own company directorate. It had production plants in Halenkov, Velké Karlovice, Uherský Brod and Rohatec under its control.
At the beginning of 1958, the Koryčany plant was incorporated under a new company UP Enterprises, National Enterprise Bučovice as one of six production plants without any other premises. The Koryčany plant remained in this organization until 1990.
In 1990, the company became independent as KORYNA s.p, (national enterprise) and in 1993, the company was privatized. Since that, it was operating under the corporate name KORYNA spol. s r.o. (LLC). At the present time, the company belongs to the leading producers of kitchen furniture in the Czech Republic.
In 1997, KORYNA spol. s r.o. was transformed to KORYNA nábytek a.s. (joint stock company) with owners´ capital of 850 million CZK.
